Process Shot
Process: I cleaned the wig in mixture of about a gallon of warm water to a cup of fabric softener and let it soak for 24 hours. Immediately after, I removed the wig from the solution and let it dry on wig head on a wig stand with a towel underneath. Before beginning to style, I brushed through the hair with argon oil. I used a hair dryer and circular barrel brush to shape it. Once it was fully dry and had its base shape, I used straight hair cutting sheers to change its length and thinning scissors to create the choppy layers of the character. After cutting and thinning, I used a straightener to reheat the hair and immediately place them in curlers. After taking them out of the curlers, I would take those pieces and coat them with hair spray and hold them until they dried. This created the wefts in the back and on the sides. To finish it up, I put a thin coat of hairspray over the whole wig.

Once it was fully dry and had its base shape, I used straight hair cutting sheers to change its length and thinning scissors to create the long layers of the character. After cutting and layering, I used a straightener to reheat the hair and immediately place them in curlers. After taking them out of the curlers, I would lightly brush out the curls and coat them with hair spray. I then placed parted the wig on the left side and made three large braids. I wrapped copper wire around the braid and tucked the ends into the hair. For the feather and copper embellishments, I put them in the same way that most stylists put in fake colored extensions. I grabbed very small strands of hair and hot-glued the feathers and gears in. Any maintenance was done using an extension brush, and I re-curled the hair the same way that I initially curled it. I set the curls with hairspray.
